WTN: I've got a Secrètes

by Jenise » Sun May 28, 2017 1:46 pm

Went to a friend's for bouillabaise. The host paired the California wine with a Pouilly-Fuisse I brought.

2014 Joseph Phelps Chardonnay Freestone Vineyards Sonoma Coast
BRENT25 pretty much nailed it: pleasing lemon-lime flavors, soft textured mouthfeel, not especially complex--more apparent when compared to the Pouilly Fuisse served alongside it. Doesn't warrant the average $40 price tag.

2014 Vignerons des Terres Secrètes Pouilly-Fuissé Chardonnay
This has firmed up a great deal since purchase last September. Super precise with great minerality, stone fruit and an anise-like spiciness that set it well apart and above the Phelps (as all present agreed). (Note to self: you didn't buy enough French '14's.)
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

Sounds like an interesting comparison, and P-F sounds excellent. I don't know if I've ever said so, but I like your style of notes, with your Broadbent-like way of noting the defining characteristics in a clear and to-the-point way.

Wow, what a compliment! I didn't even realize I had a style--at dinners at other people's homes I generally don't take notes. So I wake up in the morning, go to CellarTracker, and note whatever impressions stuck.
