2015 Massican Sauvignon Blanc Napa Valley
Chiseled and minerally with bright lemony fruit and sweet vegetal notes, like blanched green beans. A faint petrol note gave it a distinguished nose. IMO scores on CT throwing 94 and 95 points at it were being way too generous, but nonetheless it's a perfect SB for those who hate the grassy, cat pee style.

While I prefer his other wines, Dan's SB has been quite widely praised.

It's not a bad wine at all. But as SB's go--it's not great. It's missing a lot of the typical SB markers and doesn't hold a candle to the Cluver (from South Africa) we had a day later.

This wine was a surprising disappointment a few months back. "Missing a lot of the typical SB markers" certainly captured my experience -- our bottle, I thought, was missing even more than that ("an initial pop of slightly floral and surprisingly austere fruit quickly being suppressed by a wave of what almost seems like tannin: think of the drying effect of greenness, but in black and white"). Your bottle seems to have been at least a little more expressive than this! Still, I prefer the Annia.

Validation! We definitely had a better bottle than you, but all the same: my first comment to Bob was, "If you served this to me blind, my first guess would be Italian chardonnay."
