WTN: Bouland Morgon

by Patchen Markell » Wed Jul 19, 2017 9:29 am

Daniel Bouland 2012 Morgon "Corcelette." I can't remember anything I was told about this producer by the guy who sold me the bottle a year ago, but man, it's good. Concentrated dried-strawberry fruit, a touch of florality, juicy and bright and propulsive, and just structured enough to keep the wine long and interesting, without seeming like it's holding anything back. $27, and worth every penny. I wish I'd tried this soon enough to get more!

Nice. The pleasures of Beaujolais.

I've only had a few Bouland wines, and didn't love them. Found them a bit dark and unelegant. But they were young and I think it was the 2009 vintage, so nothing to do with your 5-year-old 2012.

I'm fairly sure I've never had any 2009 Beaujolais. In fact, that vintage feels like a mystery to me across France and Italy -- maybe because that was a period when I wasn't buying to cellar and wasn't paying much attention; and I certainly haven't been backfilling 09s since.

Anyhow, thanks: it's good to know that Bouland may be one to avoid in bigger, riper years.
cheers, Patchen
