The summer 2017 Broctacular at Broc Cellars was quite a party. Amazing food, including oysters and lamb sliders, paired with Chris Brockway's fine boned "IPOB" wines.
My two highlights were:
2016 Shell Creek Vineyards (Paso Robles) Chenin Blanc. This may be my favorite American Chenin Blanc. Amazingly savory and "minerally", with a delicious lemony character. Nice mouth feel, both crisp and rich. Overhearing other comments at the party, this seemed to be a crowd favorite.
2016 Solano County Valdigue. This was a wow wine this year as well. Definitely a "natural wine" funkiness, but delicious dark cherry, berry, herb, and earth flavors.
These two bottles did not last the evening. My friends and I finished them both with roast chicken, Mexican Street Corn, and Cole Slaw.
