Is 'Orgion', and the name of this wine.
2014 Sclavos Winery Mavrodaphne 'Orgion' Kephalonia, Greece
An American-born friend of Greek heritage recently travelled to Kefalonia and specifically to the tiny village of Loukarata from which his own last name derived. There he tasted this wine and brought home this bottle, which he shared with us. I can't swear that my description of the wine is not loaded with the emotion I felt upon receiving that honor, but I think this is pretty objective: deep purple, intoxicating spicy nose, sweet cypress wood, mint, beef broth, the perfect hint of funk and firm tannins. From a little place but not a little wine; world-class quality.
