WTN: 1991 Anderson's Conn Valley Cab

by Patchen Markell » Sun Aug 06, 2017 9:17 pm

Anderson's Conn Valley Vineyards 1991 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, Estate Reserve. Purchased last year as part of a small group of well-priced bottles from Napa in the 80s and 90s. Immaculate cork, promisingly bright color, and indeed this is a terrific bottle. Sweet black plum and currant fruit framed by earth, leather, and tobacco, but taking on even more brightness with time; vibrant and long. "Old-school and old-world in style for sure, but also unmistakably Californian in the aged lushness of the fruit at its core. A real pleasure. Goes beautifully with a dry-aged ribeye drizzled with balsamico tradizionale and roasted new potatoes.
cheers, Patchen

This winery had never been on my radar at all, even back when I lived in California and made regular tasting trips to the wine country. I see their Estate Reserve cab now sells for $120 (double what I paid for this antique) and comes in at 16.2%. Sigh.
cheers, Patchen
