WTN: Salt and Pepiere

2012 Domaine de la Pépière (Marc Ollivier) Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine Clisson - France, Loire Valley, Pays Nantais, Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine (8/9/2017)
Hot August night (!), and a crisp, refreshing Muscadet hits the spot. This bottling works well for me because it has a touch more body than the Briords, but still that intensity of mineral cut, and crisp tree fruit tones. Each sniff brings back the combination of the sea and a not quite ripe white peach - the fruit smells great, and a bit more high toned than one ready to eat. Each sip sharpens the palate, with lingering fruit and fresh acidity. Brilliant stuff.

I'll camp onto your note and mention that I had a 2011 Pepiere Muscadet--thought these wines aged well and had unintentionally held onto this one, so I popped it to test for the All Things Loire tasting on Tuesday. It was just eh.

The base Muscadet? That's not the one I would hold onto. Plus '11 was not a stellar vintage, not at all.

Well, as I said, it was not intentionally held onto.

Love the Clisson. Hard to keep hands off, drinks well young. But holding off on my '12 mags.
Jenise, while I usually age Briords (and Clisson, and sometimes Gras Moutons) I drink the regular usually within year of release. But couple times I've accidentally aged for a few years, showed really well, sorry your '11 didn't.
