WTN: Drew Syrah ValentiRanch '09...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Mon Aug 14, 2017 12:10 pm

Had this Syrah last week:
1. Drew Syrah ValentiVnyd/MendoRidge (98 cs; www.DrewWines.com; 13.6%) Elk 2009: Dark color w/ no bricking; beautiful spicy/blackberry/Syrah rather peppery/spicy/cold-climate slight roasted/gamey light toasty/Burgundian/oak/smokey fairly perfumed lovely nose; rather tart/tangy/lean very spicy/blackberry/Syrah some black pepper/c-c Syrah light smokey/toasty/Fr.oak bit complex flavor w/ modest angular/tangy tannins; very long fairly tart/tangy rather spicy/blackberry/Syrah c-c/peppery slight roasted/Rhonish some toasty/pencilly/Fr.oak bit complex finish w/ modest sharp tannins; lost some of the lush Syrah fruit but quite an interesting Syrah w/ lots of the Drew Pinot character.

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. I generally like Jason&Molly Drew's Syrahs across the board. And their Albarino is one of the best around. The Pinots are their flagship wines, though the don't really grab me. I also had two of their '09 Pinots (Gatekeeper and McDougalRanch) that were good, but just that.
