His go-to restaurant is Mr. Chow in Beverly Hills where an order of steamed rice goes for $8.50.

Wonder what Chinese-invested wine goes with that?

That's actually a very pointed observation. To understand what the author was really saying, you need to know that Mr. Chow Beverly Hills (and Miami) is a celebrity magnet, parking lot full of Ferraris and the front entrance covered by papparazzi 24/7. Beautiful People only.
