Tried these two the other night:
1. EdmundsStJohn TheShadow Syrah Calif (13.9%; www.EdmundsStJohn.com) Wayward Pilgrims of the Vine/AmericaCanyon 2002: Med.dark color w/ some bricking; some earthy/dusty/mushroomy slight blackberry/Syrah/spicy slight smoked meats/smoked hot dog complex interesting nose; lightly tart rather earthy/dusty/mushroomy/ElDorado(?) bit smoked hot dog/smoked meats slight blackberry/blueberry/Syrah flavor w/ light bitey tannins; med.long rather tart/tangy/lean fairly earthy/dusty/mushroomy very light blueberry/blackberry/Syrah finish w/ light rough/angular/bitey tannins; pleasant enough like a mid-range CdR but not going anywhere; interesting Syrah but offers up not a whole lot of pleasure.

Carlisle Syrah SonomaCnty (15.9%; 350 cs) SantaRosa 2002: Very dark/black color w/ some bricking; very strong blackberry/boysenberry/ripe bit earthy/dusty/peppery slight fumey/alcoholic/VA light toasty/oak/pencilly bit complex nose; soft lush/rich bit tangy/metallic slightly drying/astringent strong blackberry/boysenberry/Syrah/ripe light toasty/oak bit drying flavor w/ ample hard/astringent tannins; very long light toasty/oak strong blackberry/boysenberry/ripe Syrah slight alcoholic/fumey light earthy/peppery finish w/ some hard/drying tannins; still plenty of ripe Syrah fruit but alcohol coming to the forefront and drying out on the palate.
