WTN: Still holding strong

by rainer.volz » Sat Sep 09, 2017 7:01 am

2005 Van Volxem Kanzemer Altenberg Riesling Alte Reben
From a very warm vintage which produced rather atypical wines.
Almonds, yellow fruit, honey, stony flavors on the nose. Also a touch of Botrytis.
Viscous and rich on the palate with concentrated sweet fruit (pears, mirabelles, figs), ginger, salty minerality and a highly complex acidity reminding of dried apricots and sea buckthorn.
Highly aromatic and fine tannins reminding of big sweet wines (Beerenauslese from Germany or Tokaji).
The finish is still sweet and very looong .. - Enjoy it now (with sweet wine lovers), however it should keep well for another 5 years.

Cheers, Rainer

Sounds great. I had an'05 Donnhoff Brucke Spatlese on Thursday that was very delicious.

Does sound good (sea buckthorn!) and quite a success for the vintage.
