2014 Kuhling-Gillot Qvinterra Riesling Trocken, Rheinhessen

I have enjoyed my various `14s from the Rhine but I was keen to try this one after reading up on some earlier K-G vintages I have filed..

SC, 12% alc, around $28 Cdn. Light yellow-straw color with a brief spritz on opening. Very nice aromatics with some mineral tones, pear, apricot..no gasolein.
Initial entry thought is why do some folks have qualms about Rheinhessen? Some grapefruit, pineapple, dried chewy apricots. Green apple too and "salty, minerally" from across the table. Hints of residual sugar but does not deter. Nice lengthy finish and memorable. Food was various pot stickers, meat and veggie.

*** nice evening till Oprah W showed up on 60 Minutes.... .

I have qualms. The production is too big. Müller-Thurgau is their number two grape. They still try to sell their Cabs. There are vines where there should not be any.

Of course there are good ones, too, but Rheinhessen is not a region I trust as I do Nahe, Rheingau or MSR.

Greetings from Sweden / Fredrik L

My trust is by producer - in all regions, globally.

For me it's not a trust issue, it's that they tend to get warmer weather than other regions, so the wines tend to be a bit broad-scaled for my ideal preferences.
