I had been enjoying the Biecher & Schaal Grand Cru Rosacker Riesling from Alsace over the months and was responding to an offer to restock on the 2015 Rieslings from this producer, so decided it was time to open my one bottle of the 2015 Biecher & Schaal Grand Cru Sommerberg Riesling, 13,5% abv. Initially, there is some "petrol" in both the aromas and flavor, but it is not overpowering and fades a bit over time. Lemon and grapefruit citrus notes emerge. The nose strikes some high notes. Mineral (steel) accents give backbone to the wine. Worth reordering (in low $20s) but I still prefer the Rosacker to this one. I ordered six bottles, two more each of the 2015 Rosacker and Sommerberg and two of a newly available vineyard, the Kastelberg. QPR (quality to price ratio) is out of sight on these wines.
