WTN: Oh yes, Donnhoff ages, Part XXXVIII

2001 Dönnhoff Schloßböckelheimer Kupfergrube Riesling Spätlese - Germany, Nahe (9/29/2017)
My last bottle of this was about two years ago, and the wine remains in a great place. Don't drink it too cold, as it loses nuance, and this wine is all about the little nuances of aroma and flavor that make it so complex. It's the rocky, spicy, zesty elements that take this from fine Riesling, to outstanding. A rush of acidity drills into the palate from the first sip through the last. The flavors linger longer than you care to wait for the next sip. The wine still retains that expansiveness, reaching to every corner of the palate, that it had in June 2002. This is compelling stuff.
