Another interesting CT stat: read it and weep

by Jenise » Sat Sep 30, 2017 10:50 am

These are the top wines on CT in terms of number of bottles owned.

I was just going to copy over the top 10, then decided the fact that there's only one American name, and it appears TWICE, merited showing y'all the top 20 (though it looks like I only picked up 19, trust me, the 20th is another Bordeaux.) The bottle count's staggering.

The other shocking stat in there, to me, anyway, is the inclusion of and positioning of Veuve Cliquot. I don't know a single champagne afficionado who holds that house in particularly high esteem.

2012 Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon 40th Anniversary Napa Valley 32,884 bottles
2009 Château Pontet-Canet Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 27,620 bottles
NV Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin Champagne Brut Champagne Blend 27,330 bottles
2000 Château Lynch-Bages Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 24,934 bottles
2005 Château Pontet-Canet Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 24,079 bottles
2010 Château Pontet-Canet Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 22,414 bottles
2002 Dom Perignon Champagne Champagne Blend 22,342 bottles
NV Krug Champagne Brut Grande Cuvée Champagne Blend 22,218 bottles
2005 Château Cos d'Estournel St. Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 19,388 bottles
2009 Château Lynch-Bages Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 18,605 bottles
2008 Château Pontet-Canet Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 18,149 bottles
2001 Château d'Yquem Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 17,607 bottles
2000 Château Léoville Barton St. Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 17,342 bottles
2003 Château Léoville Barton St. Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 17,157 bottles
2003 Château Pontet-Canet Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 16,912 bottles
2010 Il Poggione (Proprietá Franceschi) Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 16,698 bottles
2005 Château Léoville Barton St. Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 15,999 bottles
2013 Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 15,169 bottles
2003 Château Montrose St. Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 15,057 bottles

FYI, several thousands of many of those bottles, especially the Caymus and Veuve, belong to restaurant inventories.

Okay, this is going to sound naive: but restaurants use CT for inventory control? I'd never considered that.
