AntonioGalloni has a new report on SantaBarbara:

where the main focus seems to be on the Pinot/Chard paradigm, a sidewise glance at Syrah, and a neglect of many of the other exciting things going on in SantaBarbara.
I was particularly amused & broke out into a big gaffaw over his "What I Did Not Like This Year" comment:

Well.....doh !! I think SteveClifton's Nebbs are first rate/world-class...with some age on them. As are JimClendenen's. And Marisa & Kris' Bevela Teroldego is right up there w/ Elisabetta's.
Anyway, an interesting, if a bit superficial, read.

Re Clendenen's nebbiolos, Bill Spohn and I shared one at the same event about a year ago, a 2005. Bill's words (which I agreed with): This was the best American Nebbiolo I have tasted, but having said that, it was a bit too American. Meaty smoky nose, not heavy on palate, a slightly sweet mid-palate, and at best a medium length finish.

Like a lot of other American versions of old world grapes, you have to appreciate the American version for what it is and check your European expectations at the door. I love California pinot as much as I love Burgundy, but I don't consider them interchangeable.
