WTN: California, I'm coming home

by Jenise » Thu Oct 12, 2017 12:10 pm

Oh, but California
California I'm coming home
I'm going to see the folks I dig
I'll even kiss a sunset pig
California I'm coming home.
-- Joni Mitchell

2011 Signorello Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
I hadn't planned on touching another of these until 2020 but chose it for obvious reasons. Good evolution in the last 14 months with tobacco and coffee notes on the blackberry fruit. Very solid for the vintage. Still believe it's best days lie ahead.

2007 Ritchie Creek Cabernet Sauvignon Spring Mountain District
The first bottle wasn't big enough so I opened this: strawberry pie nose with some tobacco. On the palate, hot vintage jammy fruit that stops short of sappy but it gets in the way of what is Ritchie's more traditional, Bordeauxish style.

Vintage tripping up the Ritchie? That's an odd flavor set.

Well, it did taste like cabernet. Just too ripe. Would have been noticeably so no matter what, but following an '11 it was of course more so.
