WTN: Jean-Marc Burgaud Beaujolais Villages

by Bob Parsons Alberta » Sat Oct 14, 2017 9:07 am

It seems to me that this family operation is really producing some very nice wines. Some reviews here and on other good sites so lets check out the 2014.

2014 Jean-Marc Burgaud Beaujolais Villages Les Vignes de Thulon.

Cellared 2 years, well stocked downtown along with Morgon Cote de Puy. Perfect natural cork, light garnet. Opened one hour, did not decant. Interesting nose with pomegranite, cranberry, cherry..sloshing helped to bring out more aromatics!
Nice integrated tannins, medium weight, firm acidity. Very good length, nice overall balance, held up well over two days, cherry, good gamay fruits. Some ripe fruit here from across the table. Should have purchased more, aaagh well.

Doesn't Burgaud have a rep for tannic Beau's that need lots of time? I've got a few in my cellar, and I think I remember having this discussion with Brian Miller or someone.

I recently bought the '16 of this as well as the Morgon CdP.
Sounds like I should hands off, but as a contrary soul (who doesn't really like to cellar stuff he has never tasted) might open a BV this weekend.

Maybe I will dig up a 2010 Burgaud when I get home just to see what is going on. I have a bunch, so it's not a great sacrifice.
