WTN: 1997 Fonseca Vintage Port

1997 Fonseca Porto Vintage - Portugal, Douro, Porto (11/11/2017)
I have read up and down notes on this wine. Mine is an up note. Decanted four hours prior to service (though I did sneak a taste early on, and it was grumpy, grumpy), the wine showed quite lithe and open, with red fruit, licorice, fresh almond and subtle spice notes. It was surprisingly easy to drink, showing well integrated tannin, and an overall silky mouthfeel. There was lots of palate depth, so perhaps 24 hours (half the bottle was left) will bring more complexity. This was an enjoyable, though not fascinating Fonseca.
