Domaine Thierry Violot-Guillemard 2015 Pommard 1er Cru "Les Rugiens." Andrea requested a Pinot; I asked if she preferred California or Burgundy; she said "California," but then I discovered we didn't have any at home (gasp!) -- so I figured a young Burgundy from a ripe year might do. It did do. This is rich and intense, with concentrated, velvety red fruit on top of iron and a hint of something sauvage. The interplay of these elements, along with decent acid, gives the wine excellent energy, and while there's a lot of tannin, relatively speaking, it's fine-grained, and doesn't inhibit enjoyment now. (And if it was a problem, yo, 8-10 years would solve it.)
cheers, Patchen
