Michel et Stephane Ogier 2001 Côte-Rôtie (the basic bottling). Decanted for about 30 minutes, and more would've been better. Very dark and funky-meaty, smoked blueberry and currants, and you know the sweaty feeling that there's something feral in the woods right there, waiting to pounce? A little of that too. Definitely on the savory rather than the floral end of the spectrum. Developing, but still has plenty of life ahead of it: this was the first of two bottles and we'll wait 5+ for the next. Good match with a mixed root-vegetable soup with smoked bacon crumbled into it.
cheers, Patchen
