2014 Schloss Gobelsburg Kamptal GV
Classic ripe year gruner stuff going on here. Bright yellow with green apple, sugar snap pea, lemon, flinty minerality and white pepper. Our bottle was a bit spritzy which could be associated with the wonky screwcap that we finally had to sever with a knife, but that only added some extra, not unpleasurable, texture. Great QPR for $17. Oh, and there couldn't have been a better match on the planet for the choucroute garni I paired it with.

Yum.

‘14 wasn’t really a “ripe” year.

Hmmm. I understood it was--ripe, not overripe. Ripe in a good way like '14 in the Macon vs. a cold, lean year.

That was ‘13. 2014 was a little bit difficult, but Gobelsburg is really good.

Went back to some resources to get a vintage refresher, and it was as I thought. 2014 was troubled, in much the same way as Germany (late rains). Slightly higher acids than normal, and good extract, but not in any way a "ripe" year. Extreme selectivity required during harvest.

Gobelsburg is usually such a good value.

Yeah, I was clearly mixing up 13 and 14--which was easy to do as the Gobelsburg lacked for nothing. I guess 15's another '13. I should stock up--GV could be my favorite white grape. I just don't buy much because one has to really work at finding it up here.
