Medoc Bordeaux---good deal/bad deal?

by Jim Grow » Mon Apr 02, 2018 5:00 pm

While in NW Ohio over Easter I went wine shopping in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Belmont Beverage on Maplecrest Rd. has a back room where wines that aren't selling end up from all their branches for 50% discount. Nothing too exotic but I did pick up a single bottle of Ch. Fourcas Hosten 2003 for 12$. Cellar Tracker has mixed opinions but for the price I didn't think I could go wrong unless poorly stored or corked. They promised to refund price if that occurred. Fill is to top of shoulder. Any opinions out there? Would you take a chance on this bottle?

Mediocre producer in a troubled vintage...what could go wrong?

But heck, for $12...

Listrac is near Margaux (southern Medoc), and I think area did worse than northern Medoc. Not a vintage I usually buy, but as David said for $12 why not try. Although top shoulder in an '03 isn't promising (just looked at some of my '00s, all in neck), maybe lower fill at bottling.
