Volcanic Sulfur in Natural Wine

by TomHill » Tue Apr 03, 2018 12:17 pm

Interesting article by SweetAlice from a NicolasJoly e-mail:
https://thefeiringline.com/a-letter-from-nicolas-joly-on-sulfur/

He/she, of course, endorses the use elemental sulfur mined from volcanoes as being more ethical/sustainable than the use of elemental sulfur
that comes as a by-product from the evil petrochemical industry.

Which brought to mind a recent article:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2218525/The-men-risk-lives-day-mining-toxic-sulphur-active-volcano-just-3-day.html
on the human toll taken in that industry mining sulfur from volcanoes.

I wonder how their holier-than-thou attitude in using elemental sulfur for authentic natural wines squares w/ the human toll in mining sulfur
from volcanoes. Probably we'll never know.

Ah, but those deaths were caused by unnatural sulohur mining in that Indonesia.

But if your sulphur comes from a LOCAL volcano - e.g. Enta or on Santorini - surely it is part of terroir, and full of earth energy and stuff.

Maybe we could toss Alice into a volcano.

Why would you want to give Pele a case of indigestion?

Alice is just another religious fanatic. Like many such, her pronouncements have no basis in reality, even if I LIKE may "natural" IPOB wines.

I will note that the yes, evil, petrochemical industry has a lot of suffering associated with it. You think the Indonesian petroleum industry is regulated by OSHA? Trump just (proposed?) eliminating new post-Deepwater Horizon safety rules.
