WTN: Burg, St Em, Bubbles, ruined Texier

Kitchen is being demo’ed, Betsy is in Maine, so Wednesday the hound and I were invited by friends to come to dinner. Ruby and I walked over hill to be greeted with smoked oyster and hummus canapes and the 2016 Bisson “Bianco delle Venezie” Frizzante(I didn’t see the word Prosecco on label). Dry, crisp and crunchy, Granny Smith and lime. I’ll look for, B+

Dinner was round pork, enoki, and eggplant with rice and salad.

2000 Croque Michotte (St Emilion)
Leather, little ashtray, black plum and herbs, ready. B

2016 Durand Syrah (VdP Collines Rhodaniennes)
I’ve liked a Durand Cornas but this was blackberry jammy, with a little VA and a hint of heat (though only said 13.5%). Not my style.C+

Last night eftover Easter lamb, quinoa, and steamed arugula

2004 Texier Brezeme Cotes du Rhone
I was excited to find this in a cellar excavation, but when I pulled the cork - Nomacorc!
VA and some oxidation, clipped. My bad for aging with plastic. C+

2006 Marechal “Cuvee Gravel” Bourgogne
But I also found this, and it showed well. Black cherry and raspberry, floral, a light anise/licorice note. Well rounded, easy to drink. B+/B

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice.Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.

I had the 2000 Marjosse last night. It was served blind. Still alive, though a little past prime. It was $9 on release.
