G.D.Vajra rosabella Vino Rosato (EB; 12%; 60% Nebb/20% Dolcetto/20% Barbera) Barolo 2016: Very pale cranberry color; rather fragrant cranberry/watermelon/pomengranate bit perfumed talc some stony/mineral/metallic attractive nose w/ no tutti-fruiti/candied character; quite tart/tangy rather austere bit tannic light cranberry/watermelon fairly stony/mineral/metallic/steely somewhat lean/austere flavor w/ light tannic bite; very long quite tart/tangy/austere/bit tannic light cranberry/watermelon slight floral/spicy finish; a rather hard/lean/austere expression of a rose; needs food w/ it. $18.00 (KK)

Carlisle Syrah CardiacHill/BennettVlly (14.2%; 525 cs; Screwtop) SantaRosa 2007: Very dark/near black color; beautiful intense blackberry/Syrah/boysenberry bit licorice/pungent/slight herbal/rosemary strong c-c/black pepper/pungent some roasted/Rhonish/smoked meats complex nose; bit soft rich/lush intense blackberry/Syrah/boysenberry/licorice quite smooth/graceful/velvety light c-c/peppery light toasty/oak slight Rhonish/roasted some complex flavr w/ light smooth bit drying tannins; very long/lingering intense blackberry/boysenberry/Syrah/bit licorice fairly smooth/polished very light toasty/oak slight c-c/black pepper/roasted/Rhonish complex finish w/ light smooth tannins; probably at its peak or a bit beyond; starting to dry out a bit; a lovely classic/mature Carlisle Syrah.

1. The next morning, the Carlisle was starting to show its age, drying out more, and turning a bit brown. Drink this wine up.
