Copain: Is this bad news? (Wells leaving)

by Brian K Miller » Mon Aug 27, 2018 1:48 pm

I figured that once he sold the winery, Wells would ease himself out. Would be too bad if they change the style dramatically, but at least the new guy has some history with the wines!

Here at Copain Winery we are excited to announce a new chapter. Veteran California winemaker Ryan Zepaltas has joined the winery as our new winemaker. Ryan is no stranger to Copain or its style of winemaking, having spent the past year as both General Manager and Winemaker alongside Wells Guthrie.

I was lucky enough to meet Ryan many years ago and taste through his Zepaltas line-up with him. I have always felt like his wines way over delivered for the price. I'm sad to hear that Wells left too because I love his wines, but feel like Ryan will do an amazing job!

I thought Copain was Wells' own winery. Not so?

What's he doing next? I really liked his post-epiphany wines.
