WTN: Two Austrian Roses '17...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Sun Sep 23, 2018 5:23 pm

Tried these two w/ Susan this weekend:
1. H&M Hofer Zweigelt Rose Weinland (12.5%; Biodynamic; TerryTheiseSlctns; EB) Maria Hofer/Neubaugasse 2017: Small bubbles around the edge of the glass, lots off tiny bubbles in btl A& glass; dissolved CO2; fairly fragrant cranberry/spicy/watermelon/bit metallic quite pleasant nose; somewhat spritzy quite tart/tangy strong watermelon/cranberry/juicy slight metallic/tangy flavor; some spritzy strong watermelon/cranberry/juicy tart/tangy/metallic long finish; clearly has dissolved CO2 but has little impact on the palate; a pleasant enough rose but just that. $18.00/litre (KK)
_______________
2. Pratsch Rose Niederosterreich (11.5%; Zweigelt; www.Pratsch.At; WineSellers/Niles/IL) EG by BichofPratsch & B by StefanPratsch/Hohenruppersdorf 2017: Lots of bubbles rising in btl when cap removed, lots of tiny bubbles clinging to side of glass, dissolved CO2; pale rose/garnet color; somewhat fragrant cranberry/spicy/floral/candied pleasant nose; quite spritzy lightly tart very light cranberry/candied/bubble gum bit off-dry (1%-2% r.s.) vaguely fruity somewhat vapid flavor; very short rather vapid/watery light candied/bubble gum off-dry finish; a rather watery/vapid take on Lancer'sRose; pretty dull stuff. $12.00 (SFW&S)

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. Both of these had fairly high degree of dissolved CO2. In the first, it appeared to have little impact on the wine. Because of the very short/vapid finish on the second wine, I suspect the dissolved CO2 may have ruined the wine. Or it could be, the wine behind the CO2 was already dull/vapid wine.
