2014 Dirler-Cade Riesling Kessler - France, Alsace, Alsace Grand Cru (10/1/2018)
Spur of the moment opening, so this was pop and pour, and initially served a bit warm. That being said, it was lovely. The first thing that struck me was the depth of flavor. Certainly deeper than any German Trocken I have had in a long time, it was right there with some of the top Austrian Smaragd wines. Close to dry, the nose and palate started with sweet apple and tart pineapple, with touches of honeysuckle, cress and a finishing hint of licorice. While the wine carried a ton of flavor, it did not feel heavy, and so was easy to drink, yet so engaging in its complexities that I was able to savor it. Lovely stuff.
