WTN: Ryme Aglianico LunaMatta '08...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Thu Oct 18, 2018 3:24 pm

Steve brought this as a mystery wine last night:
1. Ryme Aglianico LunnaMattaVnyd/PasoRobles (15.8%) 2008: Very dark/black color; strong blackberry/boysnberry/ripe/Aglianico/bit licorice some PR plummy/ripe/bit rustic some toasty/oak bit earthy/rustic very interesting nose w/ no signs of alcoholic fumey character; bit soft quite hard/tannic very strong PR plummy/ripe/boysenberry bit coarse/rustic/Aglianico some toasty/oak huge/structured intense flavor w/ fierce hard/rough tannins; very long intense boysenberry/PR plummy/ripe/licorice rather Aglianico/rustic/rough some toasty/oak slight earthy/rustic finish w/ intense rough/chewey tannins; a monster of a wine showing some of the rustic/coarse/sauvage side of Aglianico with fierce tannins.

bit earthy/rustic/loamy finish w/ some rough tannins; not developing at a very fast pace; shows some the rustic
side of Anglianico and lots of ripeness w/o straying into the overripe/jammy side of some Paso reds; quite a
good expression of Calif Anglianico.

This was Megan/Ryan's first Aglianico and I recall was released after the 2009 version. It seems to have lost a bit of the fruit and may be one of those wines that never outlives the tannins. Developing at a glacial pace, if at all.
