After dinner tonight I finished a 1/2 bottle of 2009 Guiraud Sauternes and was again amazed by the wonderful nose. There was of course the abundant bouquet of sweet pears and other white fruits but also the fragrance of herbs. I should have left a bit in my glass to sniff over the rest of the nite. Not really a WOW wine overall but the herbal note mixed with the sweet fruit was captivating. I am on the look-out for some 2014 Climens as everything I read about it is VERY special.
I know what you mean! And I love that herbal component in Guirards. Also, they seem about 10% less sweet than most of the rest, which I quite appreciate.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
The nose of a good Sauternes is a whiff of paradise for me.
