WTN: A BedrockSyrah & a PX...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Mon Dec 31, 2018 1:19 pm

Had these two for my BD dinner on Sat:
1. Bedrock Syrah NorthCoast (14.0%; 33-50% w-c; 11 mo. in Fr.oak; 14 brls) 2011: Very dark/near black color; very strong blackberry/Syrah/blueberry strong w-c/peppery/Rhonish light Fr.oak/toasty some complex/Rhonish nose; fairly tart/tang strong blackberry/Syrah/spicy/blueberry some toasty/oak rather Rhonish/peppery/w-c slight c-c/black pepper flavor w/ light tangy tannins; very long/lingering rather tart/tangy strong blackberry/Syrah/spicy strong Rhonish/w-c/peppery finish w/ light tannins; a very attractive fairly Rhonish Syrah at a stupid/silly price. $18.00

2. Bodega Fernando de Castilla Antique PedroXimenez (15%; U) NV: Very dark/black color; very intense raisened/pruney/PX/licorice almost chocolatly rather treacly very complex beautiful nose; intensely sweet/treacly intense grapey/raisened/pruney/licorice bit burnt rich/mouth-coating very complex flavor; very long/lingering intensely sweet/treacly intense raisened/pruney/licorice complex finish that goes on & on; a classic but stunning example of PX. $49.00/500 ml

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. Syrah: This Syrah came from the Hudson/Grifin'sLair/AlderSprings vnyds. With the addition of Syrah from ShakeRidge, it is now called Coast to Foothills Syrah.

2. PX: Not exactly sure where I bought this 500ml btl or I'd go back for more. A very classix PX but more complexity than you typically find in PX. Maybe the best PX I've had since the 1827 PX Domceq that DarrellCorti had specially bttld for his store.
Susan made a Cranberry Steamed Pudding for my BD dessert. Good thing...because you couldn't put candles in it that'd burn down the house.

Those blended Bedrock wines are silly values.
