1981 Joseph Swan Pinot Noir

by John Treder » Fri Jan 25, 2019 8:46 pm

I had the opportunity do drink a glass of this wine last night.
It was simply amazing. Fairly dark ruby red, no clearing at the rim. Just a touch of tannin remaining. My nose is so bad these days that I can't say much about that. In the mouth it had a fresh taste, similar to loganberries. Medium long, very smooth finish.
It was decanted from magnum and served between a course of Liberty Duck Confit Cassoulet and one of Axis Venison. I think the venison was a loin cut. It was excellent.
The occasion was a Joseph Swan Winemaker Dinner at John Ash & Co. here in Santa Rosa, with about 40 people attending.
All Swan wines, and the 5 course tasting menu was created just for the occasion.
In my opinion, that wine was worth the price of the dinner, all by itself.
I went on at some length on Facebook.

Outstanding. Old Swans are nectar.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

Sounds like a great evening. I always wanted to drink more Swan wines but they were not easy to find, even when I lived in CA. Or maybe I was distracted with other stuff. Either way, sounds great.
