WTN: Rombauer Zin Calif '16...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Mon Jan 28, 2019 11:44 am

Tried last night:
1. RombauerVnyds Zin Calif (15.9%;; 6% PS; 83% ElDorado&SierraFoothills; SaH: 27.7 Brix) Napa 2016: Med.dark color; very strong raspberry/blackberry/Zin/some spicy/bit peppery/very ripe/jammy strong vanilla/Am.oak/dill somewhat attractive nose; bit alcoholic/hot strong vanilla/dill/Am.oak strong ripe/Zin/raspberry/blackberry/chocolaty/licorice some jammy/Amador quite soft/soupy flavor w/ light smooth/ripe tannins; med.long soft/soupy slight metallic very ripe/raspberry/blackberry/Zin/bit spicy/jammy strong Am.oak/vanilla/dill some alcoholic/hot finish w/ light soft/very ripe tannins; loads of overripe/jammy Zin fruit and quite soft/porky/soupy on the palate; pretty boring/undistinguished expression of Zin; way overpriced at $34.00 (KK)
A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. Rombauer has long been the punching boy for all that's wrong w/ Calif Chard. Actually, I find their Carneros Chard not at all that and pretty good. So, I thought I should give their Zin a try and see if maybe it's much better than one would have expected. Probably the Meiomi of Zin I would call it. No way am I gonna try their Merlot. Time I forget about Rombauer..sayonara, Rombauer.
