WTN: Bitter Weather calls for a Hart-eee Wine

by Jim Grow » Wed Jan 30, 2019 8:52 pm

With temps in the negative # today, we cooked a bean/ham soup on the wood stove today and had a Howie Hart wine with it, the 2013 Lemberger . This wine from the Niagra Escarpment and Don DeMaison Vyd. was my first Lemberger and it may have been slightly past its prime. Color was ruby with slight browning at the edges. Nose was a bit muted but had some sour cherry and the palate had more sour cherry. Closure was a nice long real cork. Label said unfined & unfiltered but I saw no sediment. Maybe this wine would have been much fruitier a few years ago. Will have to talk to Howie about that when I see him at MoCool this year.

Yes, the weather cold. It's -4 as I'm writing this. 2013 was not the best year locally. I just checked my records and the 2013 was the last batch of Lemberger that I made. I may still have a few bottles hiding in the cellar. Remind me to pick up a more recent bottle from Don DeMaison's winery before MOCOOL: https://longcliffwinery.com/our-wines/
And thanks for the feedback.
Chico - Hey! This Bottle is empty!
Groucho - That's because it's dry Champagne.
