With roast chicken sweet potatoes, & salad , the 2014 Bachelet Bourgogne Rouge, Fairly tannic for Bourgogne, some Gevrey-ish soi notes, a little meaty. Pretty tasty though red meat might have been better with the tannin. B+

Some friends have an annual Booker Prize dinner, but after reading reviews switched to a finalist, “washington Black. “ In past I’ve sneered at those who attend without reading book, but this year I was one! Ouch! But good food and company. We brought wine and an artichoke frittata, hostess made roast chicken & spinach lasagna, others brought crudite, chicken/black bean chili, lamb with rice, salad, sweet potatoes.

Brun FRV100
Fun berry froth, goes with anything B+/B

1990 Ch. Monbousquet (St. Emilion)
Double-decanted before I left home. Sweet black plum fruit, no ‘90 roasties, tannin all resolved, simple but pleasant for initial serving, a revisit after an hour was cracking up- VA and ashtray. Nothing exciting, but better than Perse era Monbousquet for me! B-/B

2015 Ch. Les Eymeries (Bordeaux AC)
Red and black fruit, tannin, short, charmless. C+

2016 “Les Charmes” Macon-Lugny
Co-op wine I believe. I like my Chard to have acids, but this seems to be just thin and acidic. Tastes overcropped. C+/B-

As the snow started Sunday Betsy’s sister joined us for Korean pancakes, shrimp/soba salad, black sea bass with ginger/garlic sauce, Shanghai greens with oyster sauce

2012 von Schubert Maximin Grünhäuser Riesling (no vineyard designation, AP #26)
This is pretty lovely for a QBA, just off-dry, peach and cherry fruit, lots of minty herbalness. Fun, easy, likable. B/B+

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice.Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.

Bachelet is always a little bit beastly. It’s why (along with price escalation) I gave up on the Cotes de Nuits Villages bottling. Both the ‘05 and ‘06 are still tough as nails.

2012 is a great Grunhaus vintage. Should be long lived, up and down the range. Was your QbA a cork or a cap?
