WTN: Try this with Mozart opera arias

2017 Veyder-Malberg Riesling Buschenberg (Wachau, Österreich)
This wine's terraces are located in Weissenkirchen, inaccessible to machinery, close to Prager's Riede Klaus. Biodynamic farming, everything is done by hand, extremely expensive.
5 grams of residual sugar at 13.5° of alcohol. 50% in new 600l acacia wood barrel and 50% in steel tank.
Shy and vibrant on the nose with cool scents of white peach and deep minerality.
On the palate it is subtle and powerful with the juicy flesh of white tropical fruits, the acidity of Amalfi lemons and the subtle tannins of mirabelles, Asian spices and profound minerality. (what do you want more in life?)
I am entranced by this wine. It sings an aria from a Mozart opera to me: gorgeous lightness, cheerfulness combined with deep roots in real life and holy earth.
So far this is the best Riesling from Wachau, which I have ever enjoyed. I am extremely grateful to Peter Veyder-Malberg for this exhilarating experience.
I'd recommend to enjoy this gem between now and 2030. My subjective rating: 95+/100.

Sounds wonderful.

I have not yet had many 2017s, so I am not that aware of the vintage character. Do you have any general thoughts?

I understand in 2017 there was no spring frost in Austria, it was an early harvest, the growing season wasn’t especially complicated.
2017 in Austria seems to be a vintage of volume and structure. It’s larger in scale than 2016, more muscular, less fleshy, much cleaner and less elegant than previous vintages.
