WTN: The Léongnan in Winter

2014 Château Haut-Bergey - France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan (5/15/2019)
I like the combination of the more classic 2014 vintage, with the relatively modern style of Haut-Bergey. At a top level, this is fairly slick, but there's an underlying tannic spine, and bit of earthiness that places the wine in Bordeaux. The balance is good, so I have no concerns about some mid-term aging (5-10 years), but it does drink well now, as as a sort of Cali/French style hybrid. For those who enjoy less opulent California Cab/Merlot wines, this is a great value option, as you are not going to get this quality level in this price range anywhere but Bordeaux.

Only other ones I've tried were at store tastings from riper vintages like 09, where I pretty much hated.

Stick to structured vintages.

Haut-Bergey goes over the top in the ripe, soft years.

Yes, I also have 'graves' reservations about it. Graves was good enough when I got into wine and we don't need no new fangled (from 1987 on) snobbery! 19876 was a bad year for audio as well - the invention of MP3 digital files - the equivalent of going from Ch. Margaux to Gallo Hearty Burgundy.

MP3 files have their uses. My entire music collection is on my iPod, which I hook into my car.

I agree about the drawbacks of MP3 at home, but on the road I am glad I have it.

Agree - in noisy environments, high class lossless files aren't much benefit and mp3 does the job. I have a filled iPod Nano I take on car trips sometimes.
