WTN: The Wintricher of the Tail

• 2012 Weingut Reinhold Haart Wintricher Ohligsberg Riesling Spätlese - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (5/27/2021)
  Followed over the course of six hours, this really blossomed after about four, and continued to unfurl until it was gone. Darker in fruit expression than the more well known Goldtropfchen bottling, this felt serious, and intellectually fascinating more than it did fun. That’s not to cast aspersions on the wine. I enjoyed it, and kept going back to it. But it was more Citizen Kane than Blazing Saddles.

Sounds like a nice counterpoint to the richness of PG, if one is in the mood. It will be interesting to see how these different vineyard sites produce wines going forward into the era of hotter vintages. In the grand scheme of things, 2012 now seems 'classic' and 'old-school'.

Of course all my PG and WO are in different vintages, so I cannot do a direct comparison.

That said, I agree with you on the 2012 issue.
