Nice article, thanks for posting. A few years ago, I attended a wine dinner featuring Copain among others. Copain had the misfortune of pouring for the last course. Preceded by the main course with Michael Browne presenting CIRQ.

The Copain, a 2013 Wendling PN Anderson Valley, was a good wine. But I among others at our table thought it would have shown better earlier in the dinner. Mr. Browne is quite the showman.

Stopped buying CIRQ and Kosta-Browne years ago. Some still in the cellar, though. Price point = doubt about QPR.

Given the pricing I am shocked that you ever bought CIRQ.

Maybe I had a case of Tempranillo Insanity. Momentary lapse of reason.

FWIW any and all wines in cellar after that "episode" valued at or above K-B prices have been gifts.

Are you a KB fan, Pat? I may be an outlier, but I've never cared much for Kosta-Browne. Very sweet, the creme soda of pinot noirs.

I tasted various K-Bs at WOPN and maybe a trade tasting or two. Interesting enough that during my more splurge days I bought a total of 6 bottles. Russian River Valley, Santa Lucia Highlands, Sonoma Coast. Vintages 2015-2016. One bottle planned for this year.

Last purchase from K-B was 2018. Won't happen again. Same for CIRQ. Both seem to have had a cult-like following; now that's a warning sign.

Michael Browne has a new label called Chev. PN and Chard. Haven't talked to any wine buddies who have purchased. Looks to be about $99 and $89 on wine searcher, respectively.

KB's been on the cult circuit for 10-15 years now. I get why they're popular but what they do isn't my preference. But I do like Copains. Not his early syrahs so much, but his early pinots yes and they've aged beautifully. I'm not sure if we've drunk all ours or not, but the 2006's have been terrific over the last 3-4 years.

At a WOPN Copain was featured. 2013 Anderson Valley, Wendling Vineyard PN. It was good, and a quick look at their website revealed a few lower-cost options. I haven't purchased any wine under the Copain brand but your note sounds promising.

Wells is no longer associated with Copain, so the 2013 is kind of meaningless.
