WTN: A Lo-Fi White & Red....(short/boring)

by TomHill » Sun Oct 24, 2021 5:26 pm

A week or so ago, I tried the Lo-Fi SauvBlanc/Chard blend & thoroughly trashed it:

1. This is exactly the kind of wine that gives natural wines a bad reputation. They don't have to be that way. Just had two AltoAdige natural wines that were perfectly clean & a pleasure to dring. Probably won't try Lo-Fi again until they become Hi-Fi.

KenZinns replied that he liked the Lo-Fi wines & I should give them another try. So I did:
1. Lo-Fi SauvBlanc/Chard SantaBarbaraCnty (52% SB from CoquelicotVnyd/48% Chard from SpearVnyd; 12.5%; www.LoFi-Wines.com; 2 wks of skin-contact during fermentation; 245 cs) Buellton 2020: Essentially the same as before; a bit more herbal/SB/fruit but still rather funky/hantavirus/unclean nose; quite tart/tangy unpleasantly sour rather unclean/hantavirus/natty flavor; only slightly more fruit but still too natty/hantavirus for my taste and so sour it's painful to drink. $25.50

2. Lo-Fi Wines CabFranc SantaBarbaraCnty (12.5%) 2020: Rather light color more like a dark rose; quite earthy/loamy light herbal/CabFranc slight Loire-like pleasant/simple quiet nose; lightly tart rather earthy/loamy/dusty lightly herbal/CabFranc quite light/innocuous/quiet/low-key rather dull flavor w/ light/bland tannins; short rather earthy/dusty/loamy lightly herbal/CabFranc very quiet/bland/dull/mild-mannered finish w/ very light washed-out tannins; a dull/eviscerated/very quiet red but at least no natty/hantavirus character; an attempt at a glou-glou CabFranc but nobody showed up $22.00 (KK)

1. Move along, folks...nothing to see here. Doubt I'll bother to try any Lo-Fi's again unless it's something pretty unusual.
Sorry, Ken.
