Used to be a big fan of S Italy reds but never knew when to open them. Clearing up in the cellar today, I came across a 2009 Taurino Salice Salentino Rosso (not the reserva). Blend of Negroamaro and Malvasia Nera (80/20). Certainly not shot and will see how this red developes over 2 days..
Any opinions from forumites?

Not had that one, but I enjoy Salice Salentino, I visited Puglia and had tastings at some of the wineries, one of which is represented in a couple of local Italian restaurants, so I always order them

Looking at CT, I think general opinion is that a Rosso of this age needs drinking up earlier? So far my 2009 is holding up nicely. Go fathom eh.

No problems.
Perhaps they depend on who makes it.

Unlike Peter, I have never visited Puglia and have never really got on with the Negroamaro and Primitivo from there which has come my way; mostly too heavy for me. A visit to Puglia or a bottle(s) well chosen by a fan of that region could change that. My guess is that these wines would taste better young.
