Starting the birthday celebration three days early

• 2005 Thierry Allemand Cornas Chaillot - France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas (1/19/2022)
  There are wines I am never going to buy again. They have escalated in price to where I just won’t take the plunge. Allemand has sadly fallen into that category. It’s sad because Allemand is the rare Northern Rhône Syrah that can simultaneously capture the savage structure and wild elements of Syrah, yet also show captivating fruit. For most it’s one or the other, with the magic only as a matter of luck. This wine (for those few who still seem to have it if CellarTracker is any indication) has decades of life ahead of it, and probably 20 years of improvement. I still don’t regret opening it, as it is currently delicious, and provides visceral, rather than intellectual pleasure, even as it still sinks its claws into my palate. Pain as pleasure!

Allemand. Verset, Voge, Ogier, Juge, Chave.
I'm definitely running out of Northern Rhones I can afford.

Voge has gotten pricy?

I have a few bottles left of late 90s and early 00s Côte Rôtie, Cornas and Hermitage from Jamet, Clape, Jaboulet and even a couple from Chave but my last from Allemand went some time ago. I think the only one of these whose recent bottles can sometimes be found for less than €100 is Clape.

Voge has gotten pricy?

Nowhere near as much as others, but I've gotten offers of recent vintages of the Fontaines at $150. VV is $100+.
I liked Voge a lot at $30.

The VV seemed fairly priced around $50, but I dropped out shortly after that. Pricing has largely shut me out of the Northern Rhone. Nothing I really like is still affordable.

Yeah, no more Jamet or Gonon for me either. I still buy a bit of Texier. Barou is affordable ok for drink young, but doesn't really satisfy the itch.I'm experimenting with Paris and Balthazar.
