WTN: Hyde in your shell

by David M. Bueker » Tue Aug 16, 2022 9:36 pm

2020 Massican Chardonnay Hyde Vineyards - USA, California, Napa Valley (8/16/2022)
Still in its infancy, this shows as an extremely bright, tart apple rendition of Hyde, with the barrel influence buried until the finish. Seems like it needs at least another year to really come together, and decide what it wants to be when it grows up. Right now it’s a rough draft of an outline of the thesis.

Sounds like a higher acid version than Ramey?
Who else makes/made Hyde besides those 2, Kistler, and of course HdV?

Yes - higher acid, and also a very different oak regimen. More new, but very light toast, so a minimal impact.

Lots of Hyde Chardonnays. DuMOL, Bouchaine and Auteur in addition to those already mentioned. Aubert does one as well. Others have done them in the past, and there are a few extremely small production versions.
