It very interesting how it describes his transition from a hotelier to one of the best producers of Austrian wines. I found it interesting that Austrian wines used to derive most of their profits from the Heurigen side of the business. But post-antifreeze scandal of the '80's, the emphasis has been production of quality wines, which has lifted the Austrian wine industry to the level it has now achieved.
Schloss Gobelsburg has always been on of my favorite wines, but the article gives me a whole lot more appreciation for the Estate.

I may have mentioned this in the past, but I had a great opportunity (actually multiple opportunities) to drink a lot of the Gobelsburg wines on my many business trips to Poland. The hotel I normally stayed at had the full range of Gobelsburg wines on their list at US retail or sometimes even lower than US retail prices. I lost count of the bottles of Gobelsburg I tried over there, as the Gruners and the Rieslings were all amazingly food friendly. That's where my love for the Gruner Veltliner Renner bottling was cemented. Whenever there was a veggie or fish dish I wanted on the menu and I was puzzling over the pairing I would order the Renner. Never cost me more than $35 US for a bottle during all the years I was going there.

You obviously have a much deeper association w/ Gobelsburg than I have, David. But I tend to try every
new one I come across here in NM. They can sometimes be a bit pricey here.

They have become pricier all over, so I hunt for sales.
