- 2018 Domaine Louis Michel Chablis 1er Cru Butteaux Vieilles Vignes - France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru (7/3/2023)
Seeing 2018 on a bottle of Chablis sets certain expectations. While this wine showed extra breadth and richness, it still carried the seashell and salt spray elements, and it was only in the fruit expression and mouthfeel that the warm vintage came into play. Rather than lemon zest it was lemon cream, and the palate felt half way to Puligny than pure Chablis. Typicity aside this was still a lovely bottle of wine, just better used in situations that don’t call for the brisk acidity of a classically structured Chablis. No regrets having more, and now I have an understanding of what situations will best utilize the wine.
