WTN: A White & A Red LastNight for DinDin...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Mon Oct 30, 2023 12:22 pm

Tried these two new wines last night:
1. Roche Guilhem Jurancon Sec AP: Jurancon (13%; 100% GrosManseng; MeBalP; Aquitaine Wine/Berkeley) Cave de Gan Jurancon 2021: Med.light gold color; rather floral/dandelions light earthy/dusty/mineral attractive nose; rather tart/tangy/metallic fairly stony/chalky/mineral very light floral/dandelions rather pleasant flavor; med.long tangy/metallic/mineral finish that mimics flavor; a pleasant little mineraly/stony white but just that; would like more aromatics & fruit. $16.50 (KK)

2. Bulli Cor VinoRosso Colli Piacenti/Emilia-Romagna (11.5%; 40% Barbera/30% Malvasia di Candia/20% Bonardo/Croatino/10% UvaRara; PortoVino/Buffalo/NY) Bulli/Bacedasco Alto di Castell Arquato NV ('21?): Med.light color; slight Barbera/spicy rather grapey/juicy Valpolicella-like earthy/dusty rather undistinguishe/unthrilling fairly rustic nose; soft slightly tangy/metallic rather earthy/rustic/grapey/simple fairly coarse flavor w/ light rough tannins; med.short finish mimics flavor; an undistinguished rustic/coarse expression that resembles a cheap Valpolicella; not worth the price. $15.00 (KK)

More feeblestof from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. Gros (and Petite) Manseng are almost exclusively found in the Jurancon, where they can make some outstanding dessert wines. The production of those wines is falling in faver of the dry versions. Too bad.

There's some Petite Manseng in Virginia.

Yup, David... I think I've had one. Would it have been from Dennis Horton?? I thought I'd was quite nice.... but not the minerality of this one.
