WTN: A White & A red....(short/boring)

by TomHill » Tue Nov 14, 2023 1:14 pm

Had these two last night for DinDin:
1. Dom.Mondange Laudria Ad'OP: Corse (12.5%; Vermentinu; BotiqueWineCollection/Philadelphia/PA) Laura & Andria Mondange/Ghisonaccia 2019: Pale gold color; some earthy/metallic bit plasticizer/new plastic trash can light pear/floral/Verm somewhat mineral/chalky rather strange unattractive nose; quite tart/tangy rather tinny/metallic mineral/flinty/stony some earthy flavor w/ a real paucity of fruit; med.long rather metallic/tinny/tangy bit earthy/stony finish that mimics flavor; a not very attractive white that speaks mostly of Corisican terroir & very litttle of Verm fruit; a bit like biting down on a strip of tin foil between your fillings; a lean/brittle/pinched white. $32.00 (SFW&S)

2. Guillaume e Reynouard Tue-Tete GrolleauGris Manoir de la Tete Rouge VdF RW (13%; Garber & Co/Topanga/CA; Orange Natural Wine; 7 mo. in concrete tanks) LePuy-Notre-Dame/Loire 2020: Very light garnet color w/ some bricking; rather earthy/dusty/OV slight floral/strawberry bit herbal slight Burgundian bit herbal/Loire CabFranc-like bit complex nose w/ little fruit; slightly spritzy/off-dry/dissolved CO2 quite earthy/dusty/OV bit herbal rather rustic/coarse very little fruit fairly tangy/metallic rather pinched/austere flavor w/ light tangy tannins; not a particularly attractive red & reminds some of a Loire Gamay; a pretty rustic/earthy/coarse red w/ little fruit. $29.00 (SFW&S)

More griggerslitch from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. I am tasting a lineup of Corsican wines w/ my SFWinos group this Fr. All came from Kermit-Lynch. I saw this Vermentino from an importer I didn't recognize, so thought I would try it. Certainly nothing to write home about w/ almost no Vermen character whatsoever.
GrolleauGris is a pink-skinned version of GrolleauNoir, a rather rare wine found only in the middle Loire vlly. It is rarely produced as a varietal wine. From this example, I understand why. This is a natural wine but shows no unclean/natty/mousey character often found in natural wines. But still not a particularly good wine.
