WTN: Two Recent Whites...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Wed Dec 13, 2023 1:57 pm

Tried these two new whites over the last few days:
1. Bedrock Compagni-PortisVnyd SonomaVlly/SonomaCnty WW (13.5%; Plntd: 1954; Aged: SS & neutral brls for 5 mo) 2022: Light gold color; very fragrant/floral/carnations/white flowers/dandelions some R-like some mineral/perfumed talc/chalky slight spicy/herbal nose; quite tart/tangy rather chalky/perfumed talc some floral/carnations/white flowers slight tangy/metallic bit complex some AltoAdige R-like flavor; very long finish bit simple follows the falvor; a rather minerally white that reminds some of whites from Friuli or AltoAdige, maybe a bit Croatia; quite an attractive white that will probably put on weight over the next few yrs. $39.00

2. Aeris Carricante CentennialMtnVnyd/Calif (12.5%; 100% Carricante) 2019: Pale gold color; strong floral/Carricante/carnations fairly ripe/lush light stony/chalky/perfumed talc bit spicy really lovely/aromatic/quite floral nose; lightly tart/tangy fairly rich/lush/ripe very floral/carnations/C light stony/perfumed talc rather perfumed flavor; long floral/ripe/perfumed finish that mimics flavor; a lovely ripe expression of Calif C; almost a bit like a floral R in character; bit pricey at $59.00

More pritleferq from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. KevinHarvey is a huge fan of Carricante & has planted the first vnyds to that variety on CentennialMtn. He also makes one in cooperation w/ a Sicilian producer.
For the '19 vintage he made two 100% Carricantes. A Bianco and this varietal labeled one. Not quite sure the exact differences. This one was at 12.5%, compared to the Bianco at 12%. This was seemed a bit more ripe and Calif in style. I slightly preferred the Bianco has showing more of a minerally Sicilian character and a bit leaner & interesting. But this seems more of a Calif expression of Carricante.

You hit on the issue for the Aeris Carricante - pricing. It's a lovely wine, but jeepers. I can get different, but equal quality Cal-Ital whites from Dan Petroski for $20-$25 less.
