WTN: Haardt Time

1997 Müller-Catoir Haardter Bürgergarten Riesling Auslese - Germany, Pfalz (12/15/2023)
The deep bronze color was a little alarming, but the aromatics pushed that aside, and sent both of us into a world of wonder. Peach, pine, orange zest, tea, butter cream (!), cinnamon, and nutmeg all came through at one time or another. We kept going back to smell it, and didn’t drink much of it for the first half hour. On the palate it was just as complex, and a truly drinkable Auslese, rather than being 90% of the way to dessert. Sufficient acidity (it is a 1997 after all) keeps the moderate sweetness in balance, and the finish strongly echoes the peach, cinnamon, pine and tea flavors. For those who enjoy a truly mature Auslese this is a treat.

Sounds like a very nice zone. I assume the palate was also nicely evolved, but still with plenty of life.

Yes. It mirrored the aromatics for the most part.
